A hosted workshop and ‘Play me’ experience, featuring Casio pianos including their multiple award-winning Celviano Grand Hybrid range, gives music teachers the opportunity to explore stunningly authentic digital hybrid pianos. In addition to this, Casio is offering the chance to register for the exclusive Casio Teacher Network which is designed to financially support teachers and improve the quality of music teaching nationally.

ABRSM is committed to supporting music teachers and the Teacher Conference is the highlight of ABRSM’s teacher development offering. This year’s Conference will focus on the themes of leadership in music education, collaboration across the profession and championing students. The Conference is designed for all music teachers and its engaging talks and workshops will help improve teaching as well as providing an opportunity to develop teaching networks with like-minded colleagues.

Head of Casio EMI Neil Evans said,

Cultivating strong relationships and engaging with the UK’s private piano teachers is a core objective for CASIO as we proudly endeavour to support the often underfunded Music Education sector. We are thrilled to renew our partnership with ABRSM to ensure students of tomorrow receive the highest quality of teaching and tools for their future trade”.

ABRSM Commercial Director Jeremy Phillips said,

We’re delighted to have Casio join as one of our partners for the second year running. The feedback we received about our partnership from teachers last year was extremely positive, with many delegates attending the dedicated Casio workshop, which will again feature this year.”

ABRSM Examiner Q&A Workshop

2019-04-30.jpg

Casio Music UK, one of the world’s most renowned producers of musical instruments, has teamed up with esteemed examining board ABRSM to host a FREE exam Q&A session. On Saturday 27th July, Casio will be joined in Musicroom, York, by ABRSM examiner, Joy Crick, and ABRSM Regional Development Executive, Kerry Baldwin. Piano teachers will be able to ask Joy and Kerry any questions they have, try out ABRSM’s range of digital resources and hear about recent developments at ABRSM. Teachers will also be able to take advantage of special discounts on ABRSM publications purchased from Musicroom on the day.

As well as hosting the Q&A session, Casio will be introducing all attendees to its Grand Hybrid Teacher Network - a piano teacher community offering rich teaching resources, FREE workshops and special offers on its award-winning Celviano Grand Hybrid digital piano.

Casio’s premium Celviano Grand Hybrid range is designed in collaboration with esteemed acoustic piano manufacturer C. Bechstein. It combines full-length precision wooden keys replicating the natural travel and the recoil of an acoustic grand piano, but with the added benefits of innovative digital sound technology.

Casio Music UK’s Marketing Executive, Jack Terroni says: We are delighted to be joining forces with ABRSM to provide yet another useful resource for piano teachers. At Casio, we are committed and passionate about providing piano teachers nationwide with the tools they need to help teach. This session will provide vital insight into how exams can be best approached and most importantly how students can be best prepared.”

John Holmes of ABRSM added “At ABRSM, we believe fundamentally in developing the all-round musician. When we assess performing skills through playing an instrument or singing, we are evaluating the candidates’ control of pitch, time, tone, shape and performance. In partnership with Casio, we hope to provide piano teachers with the tangible tools and creative ideas they need in order to nurture performing skills, helping them to enable their pupils to achieve the best results they can. The ABRSM Examiner promise is ‘I’ll do my best to help you do your best’. This event will exemplify that by providing insight from the heart of the exam experience.”

Graduating from The Royal Academy of Music, Joy has 24 years’ experience in music education. Joy has developed teaching skills in a variety of scenarios, from Oboe Specialist, General Woodwind, Curriculum Music (Secondary Schools) through to Whole Class Instrumental Teaching (Primary Schools). Today, Joy is an ABRSM Examiner but continues to teach and play on a freelance basis.

Practising The Piano - Introduction To The Practice Tools

Based on Graham Fitch’s highly acclaimed eBook Series and blog, this one-day course will introduce highly effective strategies and approaches which will assist you and your students in getting the most out of time spent practising the piano.

The course will be delivered in an interactive format with introductory presentations followed by breakout sessions where you will each have your own private digital piano with headphones to test out a particular practice skill. There will be plenty of opportunity for feedback with question and answer sessions forming the backbone of the day. The following topics will be covered:

  • Introduction: An overview of the practice tools

  • Using the feedback loop: How to plan and focus your practice session for maximum benefit in every area.

  • Slow practice: How to use ultra-slow speeds for learning notes, correcting errors and finessing sound, and when not to use it!

  • Gaining speed: We explore two methods of taking a piece from the slow stages to performance speed, developing fluency and accuracy as well as ease and grace.

  • Repetition in practice: We form habits by repetition, but only perfect practice makes perfect. In this session we learn how to manage repetition in our practice mindfully and creatively to achieve tangible, lasting results.

Preparatory materials for breakout sessions will be provided in advance and all participants will receive handouts and complimentary online access to Graham’s video lecture series on the Practice Tools (valued at £20). Please note that participants will not be required to play in front of others, unless they wish to.

You will leave with tangible tools and skills that will immediately deliver results in your own practice and teaching!

Course details:

  • Participants: maximum 15 places

  • Participant profile: Piano teachers and intermediate pianists (+/- Grade 5 upwards)

  • Includes: preparatory materials, tea / coffee, lunch, online resources

This event has been made possible with the support of Casio and will include a brief presentation by Chris Stanbury from Casio on the Grand Hybrid and benefits of the Casio Teacher Network.
